S302 Tangyin Section Railway Overpass Steel Box Girder

A 50 m weathering-steel box girder carries the S302 road over the WaRi Railway in Tangyin County.

Railway overpass configuration

The S302 Tangyin road upgrade includes a railway overpass with a 50 m simply supported steel box girder. The wider bridge is approximately 600 m long, and project records list about 1,178 tonnes of steel for the box girder.

Seven-cell weathering-steel girder

The girder is a single box with seven cells, approximately 34 m wide at the top and 28.8 m at the bottom. The project specifies Q345qDNH weathering steel. Its broad cross-section called for close control of fabrication geometry, segment connections and bridge alignment.

Incremental launching across the railway

The steel girder was fabricated in sections and installed using an incremental launching system. This method supported placement across the WaRi Railway while limiting the need for heavy lifting directly above the tracks. Welding inspection, temporary support and rail-work coordination were key engineering considerations.

Road connection

The overpass removes the road–rail level crossing conflict and supports continuous travel along the S302 route through Tangyin County.
